Borough Council elections were held in Cheltenham on Thursday May 3rd, 2012.
LEGLAG is strictly non-political but we are sorry to note that Robin MacDonald, who was LEGLAG's treasurer and a committee member for many years, has stepped down as Councillor for Leckhampton. We thank him for all he has done for us.
In his place Andrew Chard has been elected as the new Borough Councillor for Leckhampton. We congratulate him on his victory and are very pleased that he is already a member of LEGLAG. He has already said that as a Councillor he will work to help us, and will be discussing how he can do this with us shortly.
The other Borough Councillor from Leckhampton is Ian Bickerton, who is also on the LEGLAG Committee. He was not up for re-election this year.
We also congratulate Elizabeth Pimley, who is another hard-working member of our Committee, on her excellent performance in the election, losing to Andrew by less than 100 votes.
All Cheltenham Borough Councillors will have much to think about in the coming years, as the Joint Core Strategy Process continues its slow and careful progress, needing approval from all three Councils (Cheltenham, Gloucester, and Tewkesbury) at each stage. There will also be an important decision to be made about the expected Planning Application from the consortium of developers!
